Welcome
We
love homeschooling. The flexibility and freedom it allows
gives us the space to learn and grow together as a
family. It also gives us a unique chance to spend our
time interacting with our community. Though we have a
very relaxed and child-led approach, we feel that it is
invaluable to have a strong foundation in basic skills
like mathematical thinking, interviewing, research and
narrative writing, scientific method, and artistic
expression. It's frustrating for anyone to work hard on
their projects, only to have them admired for a moment
and then filed in a drawer. It is much better to give our
work meaning by creating this site to share it with you.
The Silver Bird began as a blog for our family, but it doesn't need to stay that way. We invite other homeschoolers, from Oregon and elsewhere, to join in and contribute.
