The Dragon's Anniversary

Once upon a time there was a little village tucked in between two hills.

The day seemed like it was going to start out and end like any other old day, but little did the villagers know that that day was the dragon's anniversary, and it had chosen that town to snack.

Suddenly, something swooped down from the sky. It was humongous, scaly, the villagers were terrified.

Just then, a small party of villagers remembered what their grandmothers had told them. Whenever a dragon comes to this village, you must offer it another town, bigger and full of villagers, and tell it where to go. The adults began to talk among themselves, trying to decide which neighboring village would make the most tempting morsel for the dragon

"You are actually going to do that?" Asked a little girl who had overheard them. "That's just plain mean. Think of the people. How would you like it if a dragon landed in their town, and they sent it to ours! I think we should think of a different plan."

"Like what?" the adults said.

"Maybe we should just let it stay in this town, and give it some sheep. Not the lambs, just the adults. Maybe when it's full, it will leave."

So, they fed the dragon sheep, one by one, until there were no more to spare. Just then, Sir Goldensword rode in on his silver-maned horse Tidemane.

They fought, and they fought and finally Clang! the dragon was defeated.

The villagers asked Sir Goldensword what they could ever do to repay him. He shook his head and said "I just did it for fun," and he and Tidemane rode away.
